What is the deal with dried veggies?

I have never really eaten much of them, bu t I was thinking that this might be an easy way to get easy good carbs that can be stored anywhere.

Do you know of any good places to get some?

What is your favorite? (or least favorite for that matter).

Some of the backpacking supply places have good freezedried products. Pretty pricey however.

you can usually find cheaper versions of the same stuff they sell for backpacking at most hippie stores. i forget now what the product is actually called, but a common one has freeze dried corn, carrots, etc. not the greatest collection of vegetables, but better than dried fruit.

I wonder how much a home food-dryer or something like that would cost? Seems like some cool things can come from it.. veggies, jerkey, etc.

I think there must be a ton of veggies that would be good dried. At least I wouldn't be so tempted by all the dried fruit.

Does "Whole Foods" (or other similar stores) have stuff like this in the bulk bins?

Last time i was in a WF they had dried veggies near the bulk bins...usually in small plastic containers.

Brad, I was recently in a Big Lots and they had food dryers/dehydrators for like $30. BL is pretty hit & miss but worth a shot.
