Figured since there are so many of them...mine as well have a thread and laugh at what people are spending time and money on...

I personally like the latest one: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20215678
Obese children miss more school than peers
Heavier kids out 2 days more, maybe to avoid being bullied, researcher says

oh and I like this jump
“It’s clear in all the literature that the more days of school you miss, it really sets you up for such negative outcomes: drugs and AIDS and (teen) pregnancy,”

oh and did we really need a study to remind people that obesity may cause kids to have a worse immune system and be sick more often? And you miss 2 days...BAMN....you have AIDS and a baby....wow...just wow

I'll save you the time for your next research...Obese kids make bad athletes....well unless you count golf...

Too fat? Common virus may be to blame: study
Mon Aug 20, 2007 3:54PM EDT
By Julie Steenhuysen

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A common virus caused human adult stem cells to turn into fat cells and could explain why some people become obese, U.S. researchers said on Monday.

The research builds on prior studies of adenovirus-36 -- a common cause of respiratory and eye infections -- and it may lead to an obesity vaccine, they said.

"We're not talking about preventing all types of obesity, but if it is caused by this virus in humans, we want a vaccine to prevent this," said Nikhil Dhurandhar, an associate professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University System.

I was reading some stuff on MSN.com a while ago about "Loosing Weight at Work." One recommendation was to wiggle your toes while at your desk.

Apparently, you burn 72 calories in an 8 hour day like that.

Now you don't have to feel so bad when your coworker offers you a Krispy Kreme. http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/1091/iconwackobz7.gif

Oh I love this study...like anyone needed to do it...I think once they threw in rap artists it really killed the bell curve.....

LONDON (Reuters) - Rock stars -- notorious for their "crash and burn" lifestyles -- really are more likely than other people to die before reaching old age.

A study of more than 1,000 mainly British and North American artists, spanning the era from Elvis Presley to rapper Eminem, found they were two to three times more likely to suffer a premature death than the general population.

Well at least there is some sort of entertainment to these studies.

ahhhh yes...probably the same study here

People may claim looks or money aren't everything when picking a mate but when it comes to the crunch, men go for beauty and women choose wealth and security, according to an international study.

So essentially when women say they want someone "funny" that really stands for "rich"......sob sob....

Homer actually says "forfty percent"

I used that quote on the front of a report for work once

I don't think it impressed my boss very much

We can't beat evolution no matter how hard we try. Men want to mate with good genes, women want to mate with someone that brings home the bacon (or wooly mammoth as the case may be).

Uh oh.....mine as well give up all hope now and hit the buffet....

America, 100 Percent Fat: Experts predict that nearly 100 percent of the population will be overweight in our lifetime.

Upon seeing more recent data, Foreyt bumped up his projection by almost two centuries: “We’re gaining by 1 percentage point every year. Assuming that trend continues, 100 percent of the population will be overweight or obese by 2040.”

It's pretty crappy that Fox killed it before it even went to theaters but I guess they didn't want to piss off that many companies.

No, but I'll watch this video tonight.

Yeah, great stats Mike. I wonder if the people that came up with that have ever heard of a logistic curve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logistic_curve). It's unlikely that everyone will end up overweight, unless maybe we're going by BMI, then everyone on this board is fat.
