View Full Version : Lifting in the Woods...

Had a chance to train in scenic upstate NY this past weekend. My coach rented a cabin by the lake for the week and one of the guys built a platform in our picnic area.

Coming from a city that has virtually no gyms left to train O-lifts -- let alone space to train outdoors -- it was a real blast and I couldn't ask for anything more...lots of meat, beer, tasteless jokes, swimming, and nice snatches.

Here are some photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/51886582@N00/sets/72157601395496384/).

Some notables: my teammate John setting a C&J "PR on the mountain" (not shown, but I got his 100kg attempt), LBH lifter Eric Briglia (62kg schoolage natl. champ), and special guest Pete Madow, who close-grip power snatched 100kg for a triple

What's my point? Nothing really...I'm still stuck at the office and needed a distraction.

Don't know what's weirder; the fact that you guys did that or that I'm envious...

I am with Robb that looked incredible. BTW I knew that Rolling Rock was a weightlifting supplement.

BTW I knew that Rolling Rock was a weightlifting supplement.

Actually the guy who won the push press contest last weekend was downing those seemingly nonstop (before, during, and after the comp.). I guess he's been in-the-know for a while.

He refers to it as 'Vitamin R.'

Dude...next time you offer one of those i'm there!

Robb: I'd suggest bringing a gas mask. For real. There were some rather foul emissions...that coupled with the somewhat cramped accomodations made for a bad, bad combo! I'm surprised I didn't die in my sleep.

We held a small meet at the campsite this time around (hence the lifting suits). We somehow managed to get 3 hours of lifting in between downpours.

I set a PR by eating 4 hamburgers and a hotdog during the warmups.

The best part was after the competition, when we all jumped into the lake wearing our singlets. Refreshing.

Man what a fantastic outing. Everytime I am up at our lake place I think about having some kind of lifting event up there.
