Hello all!
What an awesome community on IF I have seemed to stumble upon here. I've read most of the posts that caught my attention in this sub-forum and I joined up today!
My name is Ethan (duh) and I'm 27 years old living in Houston, TX. I'm currently 287 pounds and 30-35% body fat.
I just started IF as a formalized routine on September 10, 2007, but had accidentally been doing sporadically it for a few months now. I've done the traditional six meals per day approach, but the weight loss and strength plateaus, constant macro tracking and tweaking, and time to prepare adequate food made it a battle. IF seems doable for life (at least that's how I feel 1.5 cycles/3 days into it!) ;)
My fat loss journey started in August 2005. I was 310 pounds and over 40% body fat - a complete waste! I got down to 236 pounds and around 25% body fat by August 2006, but started slipping a bit and tiring of the same ole', same ole' in 2006. Early 2007 presented a new home purchase, various rough spots, general stress, and other challenges in life and brought havoc upon my fitness and fat loss quest during the first half of the year (and having a girlfriend and getting lazy due to not having to chase the ladies never helps either!)
In mid August 2007, I noticed that I was up to 297 pounds, but at least I was at 35% body fat - better composition than 2 years ago, but the fat level was still unacceptable. I resumed my six a day protocol with random fasting mixed in and rededicated myself to the gym - and found great personal bests in all of my major lifts. I started searching for other weight loss and fitness approaches and fasting in general always appealed to me for spiritual and detox purposes, but not weight loss.
I stumbled upon Art Devany's site, Dave Draper's IF post, and Dr. Eades blog post about IF and became highly interested. I'm a classic endomorph (with a smidge of meso in there) so insulin is a biggie for me and fat loss is a constant challenge.
I don't know where IF is going to take me in this journey, but I'm very excited and anxious after reading many of the medical studies, personal testimonies, and amazing posts from the members here. I'm starting with the 24 on/24 off approach mentioned in the Eades blog, with my start and stop time set at 6:30 PM.
So, in short, but long, but short - I just wanted to say "Hello" and hope to provide a good case study on a 290+ pound guy losing fat, improving strength, and improving body composition using IF. The only concern I have is, of course, loose skin - so if this thing works too well, I'll have to slow my weight loss to be sure my skin and body adjusts nicely to my recomp.
Thanks again and here goes!
