So I just took a 30ml shot of extra virgin olive oil (the weirdiest thing I've ever done in the name of fitness).

I was browsing various oils in the pantry and noticed there's lots of variation in poly/mono fats. Which oil should I be drinking (please don't say flax, that stuff is expensive)? How much should I be drinking? I'm 6'2" and 195lbs and my diet is mainly very lean meats and fish (tuna/salmon steaks, lean beef, 2 cans of tuna in the morning). Thanks.

For the purposes of building muscle mass, olive oil is fine. In terms of overall health, however, you want to make sure you are getting your omega-3s and some quality omega-6s. For omega-3's, fish oil is best bet. Borage oil is a nice source of good omega-6s.

In general, Americans get too many of the wrong kind of omega-6s, but that in no way obviates their role in our diet.

Are you just looking for fats to keep your calorie intake high? Does it have to be oil? Coconut Oil is good. Add butter to everything too (grass fed if possible). I'd watch over doing it on tuna and fish with the Mercury content nowadays.

I came across a shake recipe the other day which has lots of calories, could be useful for a high calorie snack or something. My boyfriends currently working on putting on more muscle mass, I'm going to make it for him and see if he likes it, although.. he hates avocado so we'll see.. I made a small version to see if it tasted any good and i liked it! It's really heavy in the stomach though.

1 cup coconut milk
1 cup water (or milk, i used water cause i don't drink milk)
1 avocado
1 scoop vanilla protein (this wasn't in the recipe i found, they put sugar here instead for sweetner, but when i made my mini version i added some protein powder for sweetner, plus it included some extra protein and was healthier so worked out good and was sweet enough)

Nikki - That is sick. He won't gain weight from it if he pukes it up right away.

Sick in a good way?
Actually he liked it! I made it with around 1/2 cup coconut milk and 3/4 cup water and 1/4 avocado, so it wasn't super heavy.

That's really funny. :-D

I probably take oils a little on the high side, but less than I did a few years ago when I got more into fitness and less into lookness.

As of now, my regimen is 2 Flame Outs twice a day. 1 Dr. Carlson's DHA gold (500mg of DHA) twice a day. 1 gram of Flax oil twice a day. And 1 gram of CLA twice a day.

I'm pretty religious about it. The older I get the more I realize that I'm very OCD about my fitness and training.

I'm 37, 5'11" 260 and my cholestrol is always less than 170 and my triglicerites (sp) are always low. The only thing I ever have to worry about is blood pressure and that's completely work/stress related. Oh, and my bodyfat is around 13 to 14% with the ole "visable abs that a good 4 to 6 weeks of dieting would make that dude look good but he likes his pizza and cream cheese too much to ever do that."

All the best,
Arden

I do a shake w/ avocado, coconut milk, egg white protein, and usually carob powder from time to time. Even olive oil occasionally. Heavy, but good!

Umm, no. They have been evilized as the culprit for heart disease....but this should clear things up

Coconut oil is a good MCT (medium chain) and breaks down easier...hence many people on Chrons and IBS take it.

I've never heard a good description of my stomach until now.
