So a few weeks ago my R knee felt unstable one day during Oly practice. I saw my PT (http://www.mingmethod.net) who is amazing (not traditional at all--uses lasers, ART,etc). Link is w/f/s
He work my SI joint and other areas and I was good to go.

This past Mon, i lifted and was doing fine (albeit tired). Later in the day I did some ZHealth work with a CF trainer and CF practitioner. I walked into that session exhausted yet gained so much energy that I hung around the CF gym after and did a few light CJ (45#bar), handstand work and even helped coach ppl on their FS!

The next monring (Tues) when I woke up after a poor night's sleep, I was in agony. I had to teach all day Tues but tried to minimize what I did with my students. I lifted on Weds (yesterday) w/out any deep squats. I taught a yoga class last evening.

I woke up in the middle of the night in agony, took advil even. My PT was working on a cancellation which came for this morning. It was perfect since I had prearranged not to work today since I was supposed to work with my Coach who couldn't come in the end. So I didnt work, my coach canceled and I got a PT appt! Everything from the stars.

To make this story short, my PT thinks it may be my medial meniscus or MCL that is messed up. I did have a meniscus tear on this knee about 13 yrs ago that healed thru pt! Yet I wasnt doing any heavy lifting then.

Pt recommended various supplements {enzymes, hyuloronic acd (sp?)}, more laser work, upping fish oils (2T day of high potency stuff from Dr G), a neoprene sleeve and contrast cold showers and hot saunas for a few days. IT does feel better but def not great. Still have difficulty with full weight bearing.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I am scheduled to lift heavy Sun in prep for my first meet in 3 weeks and am also going to Coach Greg next wknd in FL. I do not want to go the medical route at this point since I think it may mess with my psyche.

I think I may have to rethink the doctor's visit. I can't even sleep. After less than 2 hrs, I woke in such intense pain from my knee. It took me several minutes to walk a few feet to the restroom to even get advil!

Sarena,
I'd suggest you get some imaging done to see what is going on (MRI).

You need to lay off the knee, whether yoga or OL. At this point, I'd say heavy lifting and/or a meet is a bad idea. Remember, you want longevity in this game, and pushing too hard in the beginning on an injury is a BAD idea (well, it's a bad idea anytime in my book).

Since you are already doing the "physical" rehab stuff (ie. PT and supplements), you may want to quickly get into the energetic stuff (ie. Traumeel tabs and ointment, BodyTalk) to see if there's something else going on.

Nighttime pain is not a good sign in general. Go see a doc.

Thanks Dr. G. But I am not sure we are gonna be friends anymore, LOL! I am so psyched to lift and dont want another setback. I am feeling better this morning but full ROM is not there in all honesty!
I am taking a joint support product, Vitalzym enzymes, xtra fish oils and hylauronic acid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyaluronan)and using the zeel ointment (http://hmedicine.com/homeopathic/medicine/1990/Zeel_Ointment) as PT says that is better for soft tissue than traumeel. Should I use the heel or traumeel tabs as well? Also had cold laser treatment yesterday and another for next week. Gonna have a rife machine treatment (http://www.rifehealth.com/) today as well.

I feel horrid not doing anything movt wise. I did sub out my yoga teaching today to play it safe. Am not sure what to do about school jobs next week for T/R either

Sarena - STAY OFF THE KNEE! It may just be a partial tear...if you continiue to workout on it, you will tear the whole thing!

I know it sucks sitting on your arse (and you've worked super hard for the upcoming meet), but as Doc G said - think long-term!

Read a good book, sip some tea.

Let's chat this weekend...I'm actually not traveling (for once). I'll send you e-mail.

Better to rest now for a couple weeks.....

then to be laid up for months because you made the problems worse....

ok so i have an appt to see ortho on mon afternoon! will keep ya all posted! coach gave me some upper body stuff to do! will rest it!
ortho really wants me to take 3x3 advil for 3 days. any thoughts?
swelling has subsided, neoprene sleeve helping too. also had some bodywork specific to area and acupuncture (friend!!) along with this rife machine (http://www.rifehealth.com/)(vibrational healing). noticed immediate results.

I know about the rest but it sucks! had major abdominal surgery in march and wound up with an abcess--4 wks off!. Then had a shoulder thing in Sept/Oct and took time off then! I cant sit still.

You can still train, just stay off the damn knee! You have 3 other limbs and plenty of other joints to work with

Thanks I needed that! Anyway to make the long saga short and concise:
I went to MD tonight and got the go ahead for everything. Found on xray a large calcium deposit sitting on medial side of patella. Gave me a ---cringe--cortisone--shot and its gone and done with!
