My friend Matt and I will be posting our food logs here to keep each other in check while we are not living in the same town. I hope that between wanting not to be the one who cheats first and having to write down everyday what I eat, I will keep my sweet/salty/cheat-y tooth in check.

A little background info: been CrossFitting for 19 months. Weighed 245lbs when I began. Mostly did the Zone diet and CrossFitted 4-5 days a week and got down to 189. However in the past few months my diet has seriously slipped (still work out 4-5 days a week) and my weight has gotten back up to 202. At present I am not planning to Zone hardcore (even though it’s principles are pretty deeply embedded in me), not going all-out Paleo (yet) and would like to work in IF eventually. However, for right now, I want to go back to the “basics” of when I started my journey and just focus daily on making good food choices. With that said:

0800 – 2 eggs scrambled with milk; 1 small gala apple

1000 – 17 slices turkey pepperoni, 1 kiwi, handful of almonds

1300 - ~ 3 oz canned tuna, veggie medley of 2 plum tomatoes, 1/3 large English cucumber, and about Ό red onion tossed with EVOO and balsamic vinaigrette

1545 - ~2 oz canned tuna, handful of almonds

2015 – 5oz ribeye, ~ 1.5 cup green beans, 1 small sweet potato, 1/3 pomegranate, and 3 spoonfuls of almond butter

romaine lettuce
field greens
tomatoes
radishes
broccoli
cucumbers
alfalfa sprouts
sunflower seeds
various cheeses
ceaser dressing

5oz of pork
5oz of tuna fish
half a rottiserie chicken

fish/olive oil

water

0930 – 3.5oz ribeye, 1 small gala apple
1140 – zone bar
1330 – 3 cups of mixed salad I threw together at a salad bar (mixed lettuce, red/orange peppers, mushrooms, red onions, cucumber, green onions, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, radishes, broccoli) 3.3 oz chicken breast, Litehouse salsa ranch dressing
2015 – 2 eggs scrambled with cheese, 5 slices bacon, 2 kiwis, 3 spoonfuls for almond butter

0945 – zone bar, 17 slices turkey pepperoni, 1 kiwi, ~10 almonds

1230 – 2 cups of mixed salad I threw together at a salad bar (mixed lettuce, red/orange peppers, mushrooms, red onions, cucumber, green onions, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, radishes, broccoli) 3.5 oz chicken breast, Litehouse salsa ranch dressing

1600 – zone bar

1800 – Had to go to Lynchburg for work this evening, ended up at Ruby Tuesday’s – got the salad bar. Salad veggies, bacon, boiled egg, grapes, tried some broccoli salad but it was too mayonnaise-y.

1120 – 1 zone bar

1345 – 3 oz tuna; 1.5 cups lentil soup, 2 spoonfuls almond butter

1530 – 17 slices turkey pepperoni, 1 kiwi, ~10 almonds

2030 - 1 italian sausage link with some cooked peppers and onions, about 1.5 cups of green beans, 2 spoonfuls of almond butter, 1 michelob ultra (but it could be 2 by the end of the night, to be completely honest)

1230 - Lunch at Eppie's in Charlottesville: roasted chicken (breast leg combo), ~1.5cups broccoli

2030-2300 - Halloween things: 2 reese cups, 3 michelob ultras, 1/2lb burger with mayo, pepper jack cheese, 3 strips bacon, sauteed mushrooms (no bun), side salad (romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion) ranch dressing, and 6 onion rings

1130 – 2 eggs scrambled with milk and cheddar cheese, 5 slices of bacon, 1 blood orange

1515 – zone bar

1720 – 2 oz tuna, ½ cup lentil soup

2030 - pre-made chicken caesar salad, 1 small fuji apple with 3 spoonfuls of almond butter

1030 - two snack size zone bars, bought then by accident, I knew 8 bars for 4 bucks had to be too good to be true!

1330 - 1.5C homemade chili, 1C unsweetened applesauce, 3 spoonfuls of almond butter

2045 - 1/2c sliced watermelon, salad with mixed greens, mushrooms, onion, peas, cucumber, cranberries, pumpkin and sesame seeds with raspberry vinaigrette

Over the weekend I tried to make the paleo pancakes and failed miserably. I also tried to make the coconut milk ice cream with eerily fresh strawberries for this time of year, and I think all I could taste was fat the entire time. I probably just couldn't get past the lack of even fake sugar in an "ice cream".

Yesterday - as I work in politics, election day is more of a holiday for me than most other days. Food consumption was not on game (beer, pizza, champagne, cake, etc). Had every intention of staying home and eating a healthful meal, buuuuuut, it obviously didn't happen that way. Have to say, ever since I started this log, it's pretty incredibly how many invitations to go out to eat/drink I have turned down and it's only been 10 days.

Today - Stomach kind of sour from what I'm assuming is a sinus infection but I haven't been to the doctor yet. Not much of an appetite.

Snacked on the following between 1330 and 1430:
3 oz tuna
1/3 english cucumber
2 snack size zone bars

No Dinner tonight.
Plan to get back to regular eating habits tomorrow.
