Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question: will I be getting a balanced amount of hamstring:quad work by doing wider stance front squats, and will the strength I build carry over well to when im using a shoulder width stance while, say, pushing on something heavy?

Thank you,

PS. If your wondering why I dont just do low bar or high bar squats, its because I'm trying to work around a shoulder issue.

Widening your stance just recruits the adductors more, not more hamstrings. You could try supersetting front squats with RDL's or add in something like RDLs or SLDLs or Good Mornings.

What is the shoulder issue?

Why wide-stance FS and not regular FS?

My initial thought is that wide FS would be pretty tough on the hips and associated musculature, but I've never done them.

Don't bastardize a lift by trying to get the best of both worlds. Do a proper FS (safe!), then pick out something for the backside.

I can't imagine doing a wide-stance FS.

they make bars like the safety squat bar and the buffalo bar that may help with your shoulder issues and back squatting.
