I did it! Hells Yeah. 70's Big TSC thank you!

Video to follow. Other than slowing down about half way up and looking like a monkey getting it on with a football momentarily it went pretty good.

I have no idea if it would have been a good lift in a PL meet but I picked it up held it and put it down. Pretty stoked as I have been chasing this for a while.

We really need a cheers emoticon. Way to go!

A 400lb classic DL has always been my holy grail, and up to a few months ago I never had it, I was 10-15lbs under at my max.

While I STILL haven't pulled for over 400, I am pretty confident I can do it, I have just been sticking to the 5/3/1 pretty strictly. That 70s big challenge looked like something that could break me away from it for a day though...

That's great! I'm about 20lbs shy of a conventional 4-plater... can't wait. Congrats! :D

Like I said monkey and a football when the bar got above my knees...

Congrats, Derek!

I pulled 385(conventional) two weeks ago with a plan to hit 405 within the next two months. I know I'll be just as stoked as you are right now when I get there.

good work!

now. tough love.

it wouldn't have passed for the hitch. flare your toes a little bit more and sit back to break the bar off the ground a little easier. your hitch happened in part because you were impatient. also, sumo is very technical lift at high %'s.
very hard to finish if the start isn't perfect. I've seen 700 sumo pullers walk up and pull on a bar that looks bolted to the floor, return with a slight change in set up and then rip it to the knees.

Thanks Dave. I am entering a PL meet in August and need to A understand and B hit some higher weights. Thanks again.

what you might find is that on your rep sets: 3s,5s, whatever, (maybe even on a big downsets of 10)..set up each one of your pulls as a series of singles.

i think touch and go reps for the DL are the shit if you have long legs but a sumo pull is unforgiving in this way.

congrats on that 405!!!.... now shoot for 450 and fix those issues Derek wrote about.

but hey, getting to that breaks a mental barrier, so now you know you can do more. :)

Just watched it, good job. Man you beat me to it! Now you are making me want to quit what i'm doing right now just so I can go max out on some DL's!

watched the vid again...

you are hurting your stretch reflex by hanging down and getting ready to pull....

squat down to the bar in the proper position before grabbing it, balls to bar basically, grab with hands and explode up almost immediately.

work on that and I think you can do more almost immediately.

keep us updated on the quest towards 500, I want to see you get it man.

Thanks Jay. A little coaching and a lot of will power and I will get there.
