View Full Version : Linear Strength Program with military concerns

Hello All,
I have been wanting to start a linear strength program for a while again after doing Starting Strength a couple times with a short time frame, however I have some considerations to this in regards to being in the military. For one I want to maintain my good level of pullups and a good run time for our fitness test. Also, with various things like a field op for a week here and there or a trip out to the woods for a few weeks, I forsee it being an on and off sort of thing.

With that said, the best thing I've thought of on my own and searching around is something like the previously named CrossFit Wichita Falls program of:
MON: STARTING STRENGTH A WORKOUT
TUE: CHINS/CONDITIONING
WED: SKILL/REST (MAYBE A L.S.D. RUN?)
THUR: STARTING STRENGTH B WORKOUT
FRI: CONDITIONING

With this I could use the conditioning days for short sprint related metcons, do a maintenance run on wed or once on the weekends, and tuesday could be weighted chinups and maybe just a couple maintenance sets throughout the week? Also, what do people think in regards to having to start and stop it (especially in terms of diet (GOMAD))? For example, do this for a month with GOMAD, have to stop for a week or so and during that time get one or two maintenance gym sessions if I can manage then pick back up the linear progression +GOMAD after the field?

Any help would be appreciated.

It looks OK, but maybe just chop out weds for abit.

Your GOMAD proposal is fine. It depends on if you want to gain mass too which I am assuming you do...

Hey Tom, fellow marine here as well.

I was doing SS, then I took a break and started jim wendlers 5-3-1 program.

I condition 2-3 times a week.

Mondays I usually do sprints and Weds I pull the sled.

Fridays are mcmap/combat-conditioning in boots/utes/flak

So far I don't feel over-trained...

I'm taking my PFT next week, so we'll see how well it carrys over.
