Thats very sad news, and at only 61 too. His work was fascinating to read. RIP.

Charlie Francis was a genius in track. He only said what was true, that track was dominated by enhanced athletes and he sought to level the playing field. The fact is that Carl Lewis did test positive at one point as well (for a banned stimulant), but was covered up, helps attest to that fact. As well as numerous other athletes of that time, a lot of Americans.
He was brave, made no excuses, and helped create a generation of track coaches through his knowledge.
May he RIP... I enjoyed reading his works.
