I'm having a bit of dilemma. In the book Greg talks about controling the force on the balls of the feet at the final extension in the clean/snatch.

But I'm not sure, when you're doing maximal efforts, are you still not jumping all you can instead of controling the force on the balls of your feet?

You drive your legs into the ground as hard as possible, your hips/top of thighs brush the bar in the snatch/clean, this transfers the leg strength into the bar for upward force and helps accelerate you underneath the bar.

Jumping is a cue to make people try to do it right since there are some mechanical similarities between the 2nd pull/explosion phase as a jump. It is not the action performed.
