It was a bench press/deadlift contest but I was only in the deadlift. There were probably 100 total contestants with most of them only doing the bench. The day was very long and hot and humid. I weighed in at 7 and did not lift until 2 in the afternoon.

I was really nervous. I had never done anything like this so I had no idea what to expect. The two months leading up the contest were pretty bad training wise for me because of the extreme heat and humidity in my garage. And a trip to Las Vegas where I consumed too much alcohol that set me back. I weighed in at 227 which was about 10 pounds lighter than I had been at the beginning of the summer so I was not sure how the lifts were going to go.

So my plan was to go really conservative on my first 2 lifts then base my third one on that. I opened with 475. That went really well.

Then 505:

So I decided to go for a pr at 555 for the last lift:

I was pretty happy with how it went. There may have been 5 - 10 pounds left in me. I think I tied for second (I still have to find out, I did not stick around for the final results) in my weight class with the winner pulling 560. I think I could have won it but I was not sure what anyone else had pulled at the time and I had to pick my next weight right after I got done with my lift so I did not have much time to see what everyone else was doing.

Overall it was a really good time. I hope to do it again only maybe to have someone with me to coach and pick my weights.

That last one looked smooth! Like the slippers, btw.
