I know Dan John said if all someone did was Clean and Press they could be awesome, but how awesome?

All I want to know is how to go about training it? Singles, doubles, triples, fives? By feel? 5/3/1 style? 3/2/1? doesn't matter?

I just don't have the time to practice the olympic lifts anymore, not that I really went anywhere with them to begin with but clean and press looks to awesome to ignore.

I'm going to throw it in my Squat and Bench day before squats and just power clean into press.

To be clear, is it going to be your focus or just warmup/accessory to squat and benching?

For me, if its a focus- work a heavy single then drop 10-30% and work some volume with a focus on technique however you like (singles, doubles, 2-position, etc.).

If its just accessory, I'd go with a very slow progression with medium volume, low intensity. For example, 5 doubles ramping to a maximum intensity of like 60-80%. Only add weight when you are totally satisfied with technique and speed. For me, I add 5lbs when I feel like I could throw the weight to the ceiling and was enjoying how easy it is. Doing it this way gives good motivation to get back to that place at new weight. Have fun!

I work up to a max of the day (MOD). Along the way there is a weight that feels just right in terms of resistance and speed. I do a 10min. PR Zone with that weight. I add 5-10# for a second 10min. Zone. This is my MTR (max training resistance).

FWIW - I add 10# to the MOD and finish with a 10min. Zone of front squats.

It's gonna be a focus, I wasn't going to put much guess work into it and just lift and go by feel but working up to a heavy single and backing off for some volume gives me a good idea of what to do though.

Do you mean clean and jerk? I only ask because if I were doing a clean and press, the max amount of weight I can press would be too light for me to advance my clean numbers.

I am going to put the C&J back in my routine, using heavy singles, 1,1,1s, and 3x1s.

nah Clean and Press, I don't think it will be much of an issue for me because I haven't trained the clean in so long anyways

If you wanted to do work capacity, you could do clean and press Bryce Lane 50/20 style. 50 reps in 20 minutes. When you get 50 reps in 20 minutes, you increase the weight a little. Do it 2x/week. This is brutal.

Nice he's made good progress on that.

No intention on work capacity for it, purely strength building.
