Any recommendations for a bursa tear (back of knee)? How long does it generally take to heal?

Mobility, if it doesn't hurt. Massage too.
If there's swelling, RICE it up and massage and anti-inflams
Any type of tearing within the body is very similar to tissue healing rates of teh skin but your mileage may vary depending on how vascularized the area/tissue is. Could be about 1-2 weeks... maybe 2-3... maybe longer.
You should be able to tell how fast it's healing within the first week or so as it starts to improve

No swelling. I got acupuncture yesterday and then it started bruising up today, which was weird. Getting massage on Wednesday. Posting photos... the white stuff is from some patch my acupuncturist gave me.

Retrograde Massage to the hamstrings will help with the inflammation and scar tissue formation. It might help the ecchymosis also?

Right on. I'm getting massage and possibly taping on Wednesday. I do work trade with a really amazing LMT who has worked with a lot of pro athletes, which is great, since she can identify injuries and solutions without telling me to stop lifting, squatting, wrestling or doing sit-ups.
After talking to the amazing Mr. Low, we think it may not be a bursa tear after all but possibly a stretched ligament or irritated cartilage/meniscus (from hyperextension) or a burst blood vessel. If I'm still limping in a week or two I'll probably get it looked at to make sure it's not a more serious meniscus issue.
Taking time off is gonna suck, but I'll do what I have to. :(

Or maybe I tore/strained the popliteus muscle. Self-diagnosis ftw!

lol, stop overanalyzing.
Just let it heal and then see where it goes from there.
Could be a popliteal strain. Doubt you tore it through though

But it's snowing! There's nothing to do but overanalyze! I heard straining the popliteus would cause the weird bruising... not sure torn ligament/cartilage would. Anyway, doesn't matter. Lots of drugs FTW. Too bad I can't mix alcohol.
