View Full Version : Hands moving on clean

I am having a problem of my hands moving in on the transition between my second pull and the receiving position on the clean. I start with my hands almost at the first power ring on the bar. But, I receive the bar and my hand come in to almost directly over my shoulders. It has not affected the lift that I can tell, but it has effected my jerk slightly since I am forced to repositon my hand before the jerk. I will try and post a video tomorrow. Has anyone ever coached or seen this problem before? Or is it even a problem.

I think it is a problem if hsnds are between the bar and your shoulders,

I was coaching a friend a few days ago and he was doing this,

it took him a couple of trys to sort it out ,

Are you using a hook grip? if not I would try this (not saying it will cure this fault but its worth a try)

I am using the hook grip. Also, I am working at a hospital in Window Rock AZ for the next month that does not have a true gym. So I have not been able to do much for my cleans or snatches. Thank you both for your comments. When I get back to civilization I will get a video and see if it looks like something that really needs to be corrected. I have a feeling that it does. Thank you both again.

I do start almost as wide that that girl does the only problem is that my hands move in a little further to right at my shoulders. It has caused me to come forward on attempts over 260lbs.

Many if not most reposition their hands between the clean and the jerk. If you have one hand moving in more than another, there may be an issue in you pull with regards to your hamstrings/ glutes firing or one arm bending with the other staying strait through the second pull.

I would not worry about having to move your hands out prior to the jerk. I have seen some coaches advise a wider grip with the jerk than you would realistically want to rack with. Also, most lifters are not comfortable racking the clean with their hands as deep on the bar as the jerk calls for.
