Here's my video from my first meet Saturday. I had lots of fun and learned a lot.

Definitely open to feedback. It's the first time in a long time I've seen my lifts on video. Not quite as pretty as they feel. Looks like plenty of room for improvement.

After looking at the lifts in slo-mo I can see I'm still not getting the full extension I should at the top of the second pull.

It looks like your back is staying to low in the clean as you come up. By this I mean your still failry over the bar by the time the bar get to your jump position. I would try some pause deadlifts, they have seemed to help me with similar issues.

I would also say that your jerk looks a little stunted, like your you are not getting under the bar fast enough. I have been working on this myself by making sure I get my back leg down faster and lower than I feel is comfortable.

Heck yeah, 6/6 at your first meet, congratulations!

How did it go timing your warm ups? How long between warm up and first attempt? How were the butterflies? Did you ever have to follow yourself?

Sorry for all the questions. My first meet is in a couple of weeks. Just hoping to get some perspective from someone who just went through it.

Thanks and no problem with the questions, Michael. I didn't worry too much about the warm up timing and first lifts. I just made sure to stretch enough and hit a few lifts leading up to my first lift. It worked out well enough for my first meet. The weights didn't really feel like I was pushing my personal limits so that made it easier. I probably had about 4 minutes between last warmup lift and first actual lift. I didn't follow myself at all. Heart was definitely racing durring the first few attempts.

Congratulations on going 6 for 6, that's awesome!

For both the snatch and the clean, wait a little longer before you go into that second pull. Let the bar make contact a little higher (into the hip on the snatch and higher on the thigh on the clean). Then continue to open up/extend as much as possible. Think about finishing with the shoulders behind the hips. Block snatches/cleans would be beneficial because it requires you to be more aggressive and helps on finishing that extension.

I wouldn't say you're staying over the bar too long, but it does look like you're not shifting your weight to the back of the foot on the first pull. I would try some Halting Snatch DLs (I think that's Carlos's "pause deadlifts").

On the jerk, it looks like you're putting a little too much weight on the front leg. Punch the bar back and bring the hips straight down. You can see a little forward shift after you split. I suggest doing some Split Push Presses (behind the neck) and focusing on hips sinking straight down (underneath the bar) and keeping your weight distributed a little more evenly.

I understand these are heavy weights and technique isn't going to be flawless. It's Just something to look for whenever you are analyzing yourself in the future.

Thanks for the feedback, Blake. I definitely have plenty to go on. I'll be mixing in work from the blocks among other things.
