In these and other videos Lu Xiaojun does "high pulls" near (and above) his max snatch weight wherein he pulls under the bar at the finish:

I'm not sure if I've seen it anywhere else.

Does anyone care to share their thoughts on the relative uses & benefits of standard snatch pulls & snatch high pulls versus this variation?

Does this heavy high pull(-under) have a place in the program of a beginner/intermediate lifter?

I think the variation has its uses sometimes with some athletes, but not with beginner or intermediate lifters. Unless a lifter has very well-developed and consistent snatch and clean technique, this high-pull variation has too much potential to cause lifters to start cutting their pulls short, leaning the chest improperly during the pull under, etc.
