View Full Version : Training Rut; Advice On Getting Strong and Fit Again

Seems since the weather has changed and daylight savings came into play, my training has suffered and my weight gain (unwanted) has gone up. I don't know if it is just laziness, getting older (whopping 34) or something else. I was hitting PRs like crazy and went from 230 to 208 in about a year. Ive trained since High School on and off but pretty solid the last 3 years. My current goal is to get to 205 and stay there.

Height: 5'10"
Weight: 240lbs
Age: 34


My diet has sucked lately so I know that is probably the main culprit, but I have since tried to hone in on that and have noticed a difference. My sleep (hrs per night) has sucked for the last 3 years. I have to be at work by 6am. I usually go to bed @9-9:30. Get an AM workout in 3-4 times a week and Saturdays, but that has changed to 2-3 days a week and no weekends. With kidos its hard to get a good workout in after work because I pick them up from school. But I am trying to implement an afternoon time slot this summer to see if that helps.

Mostly focus on strength moves and power (DL, BS, FS, CLnJ, and Snatch + pressing and some cardio) My main goals is fitness, strength, and health longevity.

Any motivation I can get or slap in the face will be appreciated. I know I have probably answered myself a little, but just need some communal encouragement if possible.

Just feel like crap a lot here lately and want to get back

Pretty standard response to bad sleep, kids and being on the wrong side of 30. You might find it helpful to start small and make the goal to just do SOMETHING every day - even if it's 5 minutes of bodyweight exercises right when you get up in the morning. Biggest thing otherwise would be doing everything in your power to create a set training schedule, even if you can only guarantee it 2 days/week. The stress of an inconsistent schedule is huge in my opinion.

thanks Gregg. I have since tried to AT LEAST do 2 or 3 workout sessions a week since this post. Plus, my oldest son is starting Soccer again, so we have been working on conditioning a lot too.

Still working on the diet, but finding motivation to stay consistent again.
