This is one of the cooler training videos I've ever seen on YouTube.

OLs, pulling boxes, kettlebells, jump squats, explosive GMs, phenomenal shoulder flexibility and stability, and real examples of "laden" and "mature" squats.

Seriously, check this out.

Awesome video.

Where do I begin:
1. How about the guy squatting out of the bottom position?
2. The guy doing heavy lunges with clean grip?
3. No wasted movements. Everything is efficient. They are not jumping 2 feet off of the ground for their cleans or shrugging their shoulders up to their ears (Like me.)

I picked up some pointers from this one. Great post and link!

I love how they are using a vaulting horse for back extensions, thats perfect!!!

And the stall bars for stretching are cool too!

I would love to have that kind of shoulder flexibility and stability, and those perfect squats. I think that was taken in the early or mid 70s. I think the same poster has a vid up of one of those lifters at the 1982 Olympic games.

Pisarenko is at 5:12 or so. Impressive. Very powerful looking. Fierce mustache!~
Krastev around 6 with a 200kg snatch

Actually the universal gym circuit made me think that even good athletes do stupid things!

It was probably "active recovery" for them. I mean, pump the muscles, but don't stress out the nervous system or the skeleton too much, right?

You can't go 100% every day.

It's funny, my great grandmother spoke Polish, my grandmother spoke Polish, and my mom used to speak Polish fluently as a girl, but I don't know a single word.

The rest of the tape (not featured) is very interesting, as well.

It begins with an account of Polish off-season training. Hardcore GPP-- lots of photos of guys clean+push-pressing logs, throwing them at each other, balancing along logs, etcetera. Footage of hill-running up steps, jumping up steps (~5 at a time) up a hill, and cross-country skiing. Lots of jumping exercises, too.

The next scene is in a gymnasium, and features a lot of light jogging and dynamic stretches for warm-up, followed by gymnastic exercises of various sorts, including floor progressions (tumbling, Handstand walks, rolling, a few partner gymnastics exercises, progressions up to tucks and handsprings). Also featured are movement-response drills (lie-on-your-belly and get-up-and-sprint-at-the-clap stuff).

What most shocked me is 1) How SKINNY most of the lifters are and 2) how they deemphasize the top of the pull relative to modern competitors.

The tape winds up with a look into the athlete selection process at the middle school/ high school level and ends with a monologue by Waldemar Bazenowski, which sounds vaguely inspiring but is unfortunately completely unintelligible if you don't speak Polish.

Cool video, would have been cooler to understand what they were saying?

Me too.

Hey Mike, the pressure's on, haha. In exchange, I'll treat you to all the strip club-quality chicken wings you can eat at Goldfingers when you come back to LBH in 3 weeks :D

Edited to Add: I've actually never been inside Goldfingers.

Sorry, I don't have the video; I saw it at a friend's house, who borrowed it from a friend...

If Michael puts it up, maybe the collective PMenu braintrust will be able to translate all the polish. :)

Very cool video. I'm amazed at how fast these guys are. During their power cleans, they go from hang to extension to catch so fast that it looks like their body doesn't move.
