I really don't think it should have gotten to the point where parents need to have someone else tell them not to poison their children, but this could be a step in the right direction (depending on what kind of nutrition they impose on these kids).

Ah the title wasn't what I thought the article was about.

Good points though, my 12 year old constantly asks me to give him a ride to school, when our school is less than a mile away. I only ever give him a ride when it got a bit colder in the winter time and if it's pouring outside.

The idea comes from Dr Tim Crayford, president of the Association of Directors of Public Health.

He also said schools should consider banning pupils from leaving during their lunch break, to stop them buying fast food.

I could see that being a good idea if the school itself had decent food/selection that would not let the students to buy 5 ice cream sandwiches for lunch rather or have the school cafeteria serve the kids a serving of chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, bread and chocolate milk and call that a balanced meal.

The 12 year olds lunch habits drive me crazy, he'll often come home saying how hungry he is because he didn't want what they were serving for lunch so instead he bought a bag of chips and some ice cream bars.

On one hand I wouldn't want the school mothering over the kids saying "no jimmy you can't have that since you didn't eat your protein." On the other hand though, something does need to be done about school food/lunches in general but I just don't know what it is.

kids will be kids....I ate junk food....everyone does as a kid....no kid in their right mind is going to be psyched up about broccolli and chicken day.....Ugh.....but the difference is we rode our bikes, played in backyards for hours....just kept active....while crappy food is not always a good idea, with kids I think it's better to instill a lifestyle of health....get them moving and running around...they will burn it off....
