ZMA Sleep question

I had a question with ZMA and sleep and something strange that has been happening to me.

Since reading the ZMA thread Coach Rut started I ordered some and have started taking it every night, on an empty stomach, right before I go to bed. My sleep is not nearly as good. I'm tossing and turning, getting up at in the middle of the night, and not falling asleep as fast as usual.

Here's where it gets a little weird. When I get up in the morning I feel much more rested. All day I feel better, especially when I work out.

Anyone know what's going on?

Succubi?

In serious mode now: Possibly overall sleep quality has improved. You may not get to sleep immediately but once you go down it may be deep, restful level 4 sleep. Duration is important but an uninterrupted sleep cycle is VERY important. Waking mid cycle registers as a potent stressor and can really mess with things.

bottom line ala The Black Box-if it works, run with it!
Keep us posted.

I had this problem when I switched brands of ZMA, I basically just stuck with it and it resolved itself within a week. Steve Shafley had a recommendation here:

I had thought about it but never actually did it.

I tried combining the ZMA with taurine as Shaf suggested. I found it really leveled out the restlessness and decreased my waking up in the middle of the night. I ran out of taurine, and have just been taking the ZMA. It is still effective, but I like the combo better.

It seems as if ZMA has been rather disruptive of my getting to sleep the last few tries.

So today I took it first thing in the morning. No problems so far... we'll see how sleep goes tonight.

I remember for about the first week I would wake up several times during the night. It seemed to make a difference to take it on an empty stomach and give it about 30 min before trying to go to sleep. I'll try the taurine combo but I'm sleeping really well. The brand I take is 'Primaforce' or something like that.

I can echo all of this. I am taking Max Muscle's "ITRX" - which is ZMA with GABA and melatonin. I sleep all night and wake up rested, even on 6 hours of sleep. I even have all the vivid dream silliness. Pretty much its awesome.

I was taking the GNC ZMA but then I switched to the Biotest ZMA. After that week of adjustment I haven't had any more problems with restlessness and midnight waking (at least ZMA related, 2 year old related is a whole other story).

What does ZMA do? I used to take a lot of supplements when i was in the navy. I only new what they did because of Magazine articles. I have not taken any supplements for 3-4 years outside Protien. What are the most beneficial Supplements and Why? Where can i find good info on this subject? Thank you for the replies in advanced.

I take my zinc and magnesium in the morning as well--taking pills before bed with the requisite water makes me have to get up to pee in the middle of the night, I don't like that...
