3 position snatch/clean

What exactly are they? Coach B's website has a short description yet I can't get exactly how they are performed and what counts as one rep (floor-below the knee-hang = one rep or each of those is a rep)?

Thank you

I learned these when doing the mass gain template. Here is a link to the video Greg posted under the exercises section of the main page.

I believe that completing all 3 positions counts as 1 rep, at least that is how I did them.

Cool. Thanks Derek. Now we need someone to chime in about the rep count.

How'd them mesocycles work for you?

completing all 3 positions = 3reps or 1 complete set

Thanks Josh

The other deal is that the 3 positions can be whatever you want them to be, really. The point is to make the exercise suitable for the athlete in question.

Typically you'd start from the floor, then from the hang/knees, then from the high hang. But if you have an athlete who's snatch is great from the hang for reasons of positioning, and then sucks from the floor, it can help to start at the top and work down to get the lifter into the proper positions and gradually add a little more ROM to each lift.

The way greg described is exactly how i do mine. I have trouble getting the bar back & in to the hips...starting at the top lets me hit/feel that position then it's easier to bring the bar there on the rest of the reps as i work my way down.

Leo Soubbotine 09-05-2007 05:39 AM

Josh - that's how I did mine yesterday since the bar quite often tries to drift away from me or the contact with my thighs is too low.

Thanks for the responses guys.

In our gym we generally do 2 position snatch which is hang snatch from just below the knee followed by a full snatch from the floor and the 2 movements = 1 rep

This is the case with any combos in our gym which makes something like

2 power cleans + 2FSQ 4x3 @ 90%

very interesting
