Casey Burgener Snatches 182
Casey Burgener went heavy yesterday in training and snatched 182 for a PR - 400 lbs on the money.

Awesome. Good for him, and a strong showing from him in 08 will be good for out sport!

Sam Cannons 09-08-2007 02:12 PM

HOLY SHIT ! For me, 182 is like unimaginable for a snatch. Thats such an incredible lift. Casey is a monster

Scott Kustes 09-09-2007 10:13 AM

Wow...I can't even snatch 182 pounds.

What's his weight class?

John Alston 09-11-2007 06:20 AM

He's 105+.
Not to cut him down in anyway, but there are olympians in the 85kg class that snatch that much... olympians are freaks.

182 is legit!

Yep there are guys lifting more out there but the fact is that the majority of them are long term, full time lifters in countries that have weightlifting as a strong part of their sporting culture.

Is CAsey a full time professional lifter or does he have to work/study and how long has he been lifting seriously?

John Alston 09-11-2007 07:02 AM

I don't know how "professional" Casey is (I bet someone on here knows more than I do), but he's young, and will likely develop for a while, getting stronger and better I expect. I see 200kg+ snatches in his future for sure.

Casey is 24 and has been lifting since he was like, 7. He has been living at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for 7 years. There is no such thing as "professional" weightlifters in this country, unfortunately there just isn't a lot of money in this sport. But Casey is pretty much as professional as you can get, Lifting is all he does. He doesn't work, and he finished school- so he just trains.
Regarding him snatching what an 85kg Olympian may snatch, you need to keep in mind that we are probably one of the only countries that are drug tested monthly. Most countries are only tested in competition, and have millions of dollars to pay "nutritionists". So for an American lifter, Casey is as good as they come. He is the best male lifter we have, and earns us the most points internationally.
