Great torn callus tip from Aimee
I tore a good sized callus today while training and as I was pouring new skin all over it in hopes of saving my workout Aimee showed me a great trick on how to protect the skin and still keep lifting.
I pretty sure we used 2 inch athletic tape this morning but I just rebuilt it using 1 inch so it will work as well.
First take about 12 inche of tape and either fold it in 1/3's for 2 inch tape or 1/2's for inch tape
Once you have done that you are going to loop it and then tape the front and back of your folded tape
You are going to want a little slack in it. I thought I wanted it really tight but trust me its better a little loose.
tape it off at your wrist and cut off the slack
I used it twice today once at the gym this morning and then I lifted at home again this afternoon with no problems. I reccomend a layer or 2 of new skin or super glue over the skin as well.

That's how we make grips out of tape if someone doesn't have grips yet in gymnastics or for apparatuses like pbars (although you will lose some friction which isn't good for underswing techniques).

If you really want your hand to heal fast to use in the next day or two soak in salt water (or rubbing alcohol as someone else told me) to help toughen up the skin. Although it will hurt a lot. :)
You can do the same trick by doubling over a double-width of tape (so it's 2 strips wide and not sticky), and then just cutting small slits in the center for a couple of fingers to slide through. Make sure it's long enough to reach your wrist on the top and bottom. Quick wrap of tape around the wrist and you're good to go.
NOt as pretty, but quick and effective. Especially on a timed workout.
