Question here

Is there a reason that in the CA WODs snatchs and clean&jerks are on the same days?

I cant do the WODs here or on XFit, the randomized schedules usually cause to many conflicts with my schedule. However, I am putting together a new program based around snatchs and c&j for weightlifting and was just wondering if there was a reason theyre together versus apart?

As stated, Im looking to keep snatches and c&j the focus with this program, but at the same time, I wouldnt mind being able to add squats and/or deadlifts for the lower body and pullups/chinups for the upper body.

Brandon,

I'm not sure what schedule you have but the CA WOD is cyclic. 4 weeks of strength stuff, 4 weeks bulgarian, rinse and repeat. Go through the archives and look at the strength weeks where it has FS's, pull work and pullups also on top of c+j and snatches.

Brandon, I am sure Greg will answer but the reason they are trained together is they are competed together. This is primarily an O/Lift program so the program trains as if you were a competitive lifter who doesn't want to lose all semblance of GPP. That is also the reason that we train snatch then clean and jerk as that is the order of the lifts in competition.

We should be going into an active recovery week next week followed by 4 weeks of a strength cycle.

If you can I would highly reccomend using the CA WOD's just as they are written for the next 9 weeks to see how you like the layout. I have followed them exclusively since inception and have seen the most improvement ever with my lifting. The improvements have come not just in the snatch and clean and jerk. In December I set something like 7 new PR's; SN 142, C&J 187, FS 225, Press 125, Helen 12:30ish, Dead Hang P/U's in a row 13 and there was something else but I can't remember off the top of my head. For my Snatch that is a 32 LB improvement since I began doing the CA WOD in October.

I have toyed with the idea adding some DL's or different lifts. Everytime I start to think like that I remember one of Dan John's quotes. "You can't be your own coach". He also says if you take someones program and change it you aren't doing the program anymore.

In summary it's a great program if you can give it a try.

Maybe Ill have to give it a try. What's nine weeks. Even if I dont like it, nine weeks of exercise I dont like is better than no exercise. I think Ill use this next week to test some one rep maxs and start the week after that.

Brandon I think that is perfect. Like I said we should be in an active recovery week so your timing is perfect.

I would definitely test your snatch and clean and jerk on the same day with about 15 minutes of rest between them. Your FS and BS I would do on different days.

Keep us posted. Do you have a training log here?

Brandon Enos 01-17-2008 06:32 PM

No, no training log on here yet, but I think Ill start one. I usually just write stuff done in notebooks. I use one for a couple weeks, lose it, start a new one, lose that one.......this may be a better system haha.
