Increasing Height

Hey all.

My fiancee is 5'3". To have a shot at pilot, she needs to make the minimum of 5'4". Many years ago when I started working out I saw some info on increasing a person's height.

Not a huge deal, I'm just curious if anyone has any reputable information.

Thanks,
-Mike

Is this to be a pilot in the Navy? The reason that I ask is that I went to college with some shorter fellows and one of them got the ax out of the pilot program because thier Femur was the wrong length. Something about ejecting possibly breaking thier legs. I have not seen anything about getting taller. I suspect that if she could get measured in the morning it might give her the inch that she needs. I have noticed that I need to adjust the mirror in my car once in a while because it seems that I am sitting taller in the AM. This could be a tough nut to crack for your girlfriend.

Make your posture as erect as possible? Loosen up the spine and joints as much as possible?

As a short person and son to another, we both did the hang for time on a bar as a kid and I'm pretty sure that did nothing.

Air Force actually.

She's not hell-bent on getting pilot, but she's interested the career field. We're Air Force ROTC, and I'm commissioning this year, but she still another 2 years after me (5-year school) so she's exploring her choices.

Flying interests her, but if she can't make the minimum height, it's a moot point and she won't worry about it.

Thanks,
-Mike

That happened to me!!! I couldn't reach the controls from the pilot's seat. I was heartbroken. No advice to give though, I'm still 5'1" :(

Theres a story in the Spinal Decompression section of Relax Into Stretch where Pavel tells a story about a police officer or something that would hand from a pullup bar as long as he could with his wife hanging on his legs to lengthen his spine, and at the end of the year he had grown taller. You could also just try Spinal Decompression.

I dunno if this'll actually work or how long it'll take to work but she could give it a shot :p

As a pilot in the USAF of 9 years (and currently a SUPT instructor pilot), I've seen everything from traction to laying in bed for a day before the measurement.

But, none of it works. If she doesn't have the sitting height, she can't do it, plain and simple truth. Of course, a cool $50 bill, or excellent bottle of scotch to the flight doc who signs the form for the height measurement could be an option, or go to space for a few weeks, astronauts gain 3-4" in height because of the lack of stress on the spine via gravity.

If she has any other questions about SUPT (if she makes it of course) feel free to PM me.
