whole wheat bread vs. white bread

so.. nutritionally speaking, is there any real difference between how the body processes wheat and white bread? Fiber? And wouldn't there be far better sources of fiber? Struggling to see the miraculous benefits of the wheat kernal, and also trying to prove to my wife why whole wheat pancakes suck so I never have to eat them again. thanks.

Well Dude, you can "be right" or you can "be happy".

Your choice.

Fiber is Overhyped and Overrated. Stay away from Bran.

Grains themselves are overrated :)

Make buckwheat pancakes, or Paleo pancakes. You can do it at the same time and keep the family happy.

Seriously, does your wife tell you what you will and won't eat? Shoot, just have some eggs and veggies, count the fiber grams, and let her see that grains don't have that much fiber at all...

Fact is, pancakes no matter what, are never going to be healthy... I absolutely love pancakes, tons of butter, syrup, etc and if I decide to eat them, Im going to enjoy them. No sense in trying to make them in some healthy manner because 1-it isnt happening, and 2-you arent going to enjoy them.

But Jay is right... Going to have to pick and choose your battles :)

Haha, I take it your single. No, we cook together daily, and we talk about food openly. We zoned together for a long time, so its not so much me being right, but bringing facts to the table. We also have a sense of humor.

Chris,
Been married for five years, been with Cori a total of 11 years. No, I wouldn't say I'm single. No one would find me eating anything I didn't say "yes" to.

I'm the cook/chef of the house. About all Cori does is combine ingredients and bake them. If she refuses to eat something, she won't eat it either.

I agree with Justin, if you're going to have pancakes, heck, the word "cake" is in there, might as well make it enjoyable. There's no point to eating things you don't really like, especially if they are made with wheat.

If you would like to go with facts to the table, there are a ton of websites that you can go to and demonstrate the negatives of grains and the benefits of veggies. If you don't already get the www.thepaleodiet.com email newsletter, you should sign up, it's all about research.

I was mainly confused with your stance that you "had" to eat whole wheat pancakes. I have a sense of humor too... :-)

thanks Justin, I have to get out to the BBB again soon, great job you guys did out there, I hope it keeps going. Been lifting at Chelsea Piers, close to home/work. I am really trying to find out if there is any truth to the myth that whole wheat is actually better than flour based bread products, not a general blanket statement that ALL grains are bad. I guess this is one I am picking, she can have the blue curtains.. :)
