400/800/1500/Shot/Discus
I plan to compete in the PA Senior Games in July, held in York PA. I’m going to give the 400/800/1500/Shot/Discus a solid try. If I can place in the top three spots in any category, it qualifies me for the 2010 National Games.
I plan to be working with a Throwing coach next month, but wonder if anyone has suggestions for training exercises. I feel pretty confident that the basic SS program will/has served me well and I should be in good basic shape when practice starts outside, but I’m open(and welcome) any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help. |
No advice but ill be rootin for ya big time!

Right on Jay, good to see you around here. Nothing really to add, but I'll be pulling for you too.

Craig;
Good suggestion, as I follow Dan's blog. I'll cross post my question over there. Thanks Derek. Jay |
Jay, Dan's got his own forum over at IronOnline (davedraper.com) as well, with a lot of his throwers on board. Good stuff and an article archive.

Thanks again. BTW, Dan is having a get together in June at his place. Not sure I can make as it conflicts with my race date, but it would be a good time. |
Good luck. That sounds like fun. I don't much care for the 800 and 1500 (I'd need a bike), but I have competed in the other events. Tweak your training to include the more explosive presses and dip-and-drive exercises. Of course DJ loves OHS for his throwers. And definitely get a coach for some instruction. Technique goes a long way in both events. I couldn't throw discus worth a damn, but I could put the shot well because of technique and explosiveness.

Jay, that IOL bash at Dan's school will be a blast. I expect to attend.
