Front Squat Foot Stance
In general, is there an optimum foot stance for the front squat? Do the toes need to be pointed straight ahead, slightly outward, and can they turned even further out as long as the knees don't go forward and the hips stay close to the body? Ive been noticing that im most comfortable with my toes pointed out more, though that could be due to tightness somewhere in the hips. Thanks in advance for the input and advice.

Toes should be turned out to a pretty good degree. Just make your thigh parallel with your foot, and your knee above the foot when viewed from the front of the toe. If those things are covered, you're at least not wrenching on your knees/ankles, so you can then adjust for rotation to find what's comfortable and allows your best depth.

The toes turned out was my problem for a while. It's hard to look down and see your toes when you have the weight racked across your shoulders in front. Also, when you do a heavy clean (full squat) or snatch you don't usually look down to see where your toes are. But chances are your toes are out more than you think.

I recently realized I had been flaring my knees out when I squatted much more than my toe flare. In other words, my toe flare didn't match my knee flare. On top of that my feet are already slightly pigeon toed to start. For example, if I am just laying down in bed and I straighten my legs, my toes are pointing out slightly.

Point the feet slightly out, make sure your knee tracks the foot in the same direction. Adjust accordingly for comfort. I personally like shoulder width apart for squat stance.
