Compression Recovery
 
anyone buying into the whole compression/recovery tights, is it all hype.

I am specifically looking at the stuff SKINs make, does anyone have some of their stuff. Would Under Armour or some cheap knockoff suffice.

Christmas is coming around and thinking of gifts.

Is this an extension of Rest Ice Compression Elevation?

Will this reduce DOMS in a signficant way?

Kraemer seems to think otherwise.

Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence when it comes to this.

DOMS does nothing to hinder or hurt workouts, so I don't see why it's a concern at all.

Compression stuff does have its usefulnesses perhaps. there may be slight improvements shunting blood back to the heart and may be useful when its really cold out.

Obviously, they're not going to be world beating stuff but if you want to eke out a bit more from your performance or want to try it feel free to go for it.

I mean, personally its probably best to focus on the big 3 (sleep, ttraining, diet) as thats where most of the results come from anywya. but i fyou ahve money to spare then go for it.

One of the posters was discussing recovery with Bill Sands (OTC guy) and apparently compression was one the better recovery items.

So I checked into compression recovery and Bill Sands. There is some interesting stuff out there. They make compression garmets that are specifically for recovery at $200 a pop so that put me off right there. Its an intresting idea and I could see how it would work, but like Steve said, sleep and eat works the best.

I do believe compression to be of some help, but paying upwards of 400 bucks for a tight fitting piece of lycra is not my thing.

I tried it. I found no measurable difference. I even compared my blood oxygen using a pulse oximeter with and without the compression wear, no difference at all. Morning pulse rate was the same, soreness was the same, etc. I will say, they are comfortable, so if it's hot out, they're actually quite nice. But I wouldn't count on them for recovery. You'll get more from jumping into a garbage can full of ice water immediately after your workouts.

An acquaintance who is an olympic lifting enthusiast acquired what was essentially a full body suit of the Skin compression gear.

Said it helped manage DOMS but overall didn't seem to improve his strength.

All in all, seem as if everyone has different opinions on it. Most people like the feeling it provides, especially those I asked at my gym. Whether it's a placebo is debatable?

Still undecided on it.

I'll wear my UA compression tights to bed if I'm feeling particularly beat-down, sometimes I'll even sleep with a TK knee band on. I do feel it helps, however, as an everyday thing I find it way overkill.

Right on! I think under Armour maybe the most cost effective way to go, as opposed to Skins or the Segoy ones (spl?).

Probably has its uses, but not as good as the standbys of rest and diet.
