Sodium intake and sleep
Can a high sodium intake disrupt sleep?
|
The short answer is “yes”. There does appear to be some genetic variability on this (not surprising) and the ratio of sodium/potassium may be more important than any specific intake level. Keep in mind that it is the chloride ion that accompanies sodium in table salt that causes most of the problems. This is significant in that salt substitutes are typically potassium chloride. One step forward, two steps back!
