I stumbled on it yesterday, the two band stretches aren't very new, but I was wondering if anyone had tried the drill with the PVC for the ribs. I tried it yesterday and could definitely get some relief in my upper back.

I don't really understand what Kelly is saying about the first rib. It seems like when he's saying first rib, he's talking about the clavicle.

Personally, I think Kelly does some ridiculous looking stuff that could be vastly simplified. You can just stick your fingers in the area that Kelly is talking about, or you could use one of the curved self-massage tools. I can't think of any reason why you need to work that area with your arm overhead. While applying pressure, you can move your arm around if you want. It'll stretch and contract the area and provide a pumping type of action.

BTW. I have two cervical ribs, so I'm at a relatively high risk of developing thoracic outlet syndrome.

The brachial plexus which innervates the whole arm is sandwiched between the anterior and middle scalenes and the first rib.




If any of your ribs/vertebrae/etc don't articulate right and/or get stuck then the muscles around them tend to get tight and painful in some cases.

Basically, he's trying to make sure the first rib is mobilized and not stuck because it can lead to some arm issues.

Nothing that new or too awesome but most people could get some relief from that

I've noticed with the massage tool that it can be difficult to apply to appropriate amount of pressure for the appropriate duration. Using the pvc pipe allow you to basically hang out for several minutes. Moving your arm overhead intensifies this, at least for me.
