Regional Qualifier Workouts....

http://games.crossfit.com/workouts/regionals-individual

That is a lot of volume/workload...etc etc over a 3 day span...!

Thoughts?

Yeah, that's a ton of stuff over the course of three days. Workout 2 is going to crush people for sure. On the bright side, the second workout and the one with the 345# deads are pretty inaccessible to most crossfitters so I don't think many people will be trying those at home and injuring themselves. My main concern is the people who are in less competitive regionals and aren't necessarily prepared for that kind of volume at those loads. Guys like Rich Froning aren't going to have a problem, but I think we may see some people getting rhabdo and some getting tweaked backs from those deadlifts.

And has anyone been reading the articles on the Games site? The number of "elite" crossfitters with injuries this year is pretty big.

yea its insane. I think those wods will crush a lot of people...the time caps are the most crazy for me....some of those times look impossible...haha. Even though I have my own opinions about crossfit...guys like Rich Froning Jr really motivate me...bein in the military its one of those things to try to be elite and do sometimes extreme phyiscal challanges to show what you have in the tank....but now as I get older..I know my limits and just try to push pass those safely...to make new limits.

Yeah, I feel exactly the same way.

Michael Fitzgerald (James Fitzgerald's younger brother) has an interesting review of the regional workouts here: http://optimumperformancecalgary.blo...regionals.html (WFS).
I'm not sure I agree with some of the points he makes but think his last point is spot on about being able to test the fittest person on earth without making the competition "borderline harmful."

This just posted on the CrossFit Games Southwest Regionals twitter:

"Rumor has it TWO of the top women's athletes are injured heading into the snatch ladder."

Hmmm.

yea i watched some of the highlights...and I'm truly impressed with Rich Froning Jr. He did all those WODS and came out unscathed. He said they were not a problem for him...haha.
