Rust proof equipment.
I live at the beach and I'm looking to outfit my garage which faces the water when it's open and it's not ventilated.
I go to the local crossfit gym to train but want the option to workout at home a few days here and there.
My main question is about bars. Should I just accept the fact that in this salty environment any steel bar will corrode and get a bargain bar. Or upgrade to the zinc treated bar which claim to be more corrosion resistant.
I would get a chrome plated bar, but most types of plating will likely keep the rust at bay.
If you're just starting out I'd get a mid-range chrome or zinc plated bar from Rogue or Pendlay. It should last for years if you follow Rogues maintenance instructions (link), but I wouldn't worry too much about minor surface oxidation unless it starts really eating into the bar. If you're really worried about it though you might want to take a look at Ivanko's stainless steel oly bar.
