I've just finished my second run-through of the Classic lift/position cycle, and am wondering what would be best to try next. I did two cycles of that program because I got really good results the first time through, but felt that I could have put more effort into it because the first several weeks were more about learning some of the drills that were new to me. The second time through was fantastic, and I am now following the transition week and wondering if a third run of the same program would be allright, or if something different might be in order.
If you've done that cycle a couple of times already then it's going to be better to go to a more advanced program.
There are a few things you can consider when choosing a new program:
-What are you weaknesses?
-How is your strength in relation to your classic lifts?
-Do you respond well to a lot of volume?
-When is your next/first competition?
If your strength is lacking then go with a strength cycle. If your technique is struggling then work on that. If your next/first competition is later in the year then work on higher volume and strength work now and lower volume later.
It's a tough question to answer on my end. But definitely move on from the Classic/Position Cycle.
Thanks for the response! Looking over the list you've provided, I really should switch over to a more strength-based program as I have been really focusing on technical development for a while now. My lifts have been going up, but I do think that getting in more quality reps at higher % would help. And lots of squats are good for the soul, so I've heard. I have no immediate plans for competing, I competed in powerlifting in my early twenties, but somewhere along the way I developed some serious anxiety about lifting in competition. Need to work on that while my lifting improves.
