I've been weightlifting for 2 years now, but I have not intentionally done any real form of conditioning work in over 4 years. I've been recommended in passing by a couple coaches to include a bit of light aerobic work, i.e. 30min jogs, light biking, to create an aerobic base that will strengthen my cardiovascular system and thus aid in recovery. I have heard of using light biking as a form of active recovery and promote circulation, but I did not ever think of improving my cardiovascular capacity for longterm recovery gains.
Has anyone tried incorporating conditioning into their training for a brief period? What type of conditioning did you try? I am considering trying this in my next training cycle, which will be a bit lighter and not a peaking cycle.
