I have been putting more focus into weightlifting in the past 5 months. I noticed that when I start to snatch anywhere above 140 lbs or so, I start to have about a 3 inch jump forward on the catch, is there any way I can possibly fix that or should I not worry about it? Also, on the second video, I was wondering if it would count as a "good lift" or "no lift"? Any other feedback as to what I can fix and work on is appreciated.
The reason you're jumping forward is because you're initiating the extension too early causing you to throw your hips forward into the bar.
Bring the bar back into the hips more and keep your weight back longer before exploding up.
Also, I would try to keep your vision focused straight ahead before lifting the bar off of the floor rather that looking down. Looking down tends to make people shift their weight forward or (in your case) jump forward on the 2nd Pull.
As for the second video...
I would call that a good lift because it just looks like your shoulders move instead of your elbows but I think it's going to depend on what kind of judges you get.
Thanks for the input Blake! I guess I got into the habit of looking down during the lift to try to keep the spine neutral, but I will work on looking forward and bring the bar back into the hips and keeping my weight back longer. I'll probably post again on this thread when I see a change.
