Default First pull - advice sought

I'm a novice weightlifter and do so more for fun and fitness than anything else.

I'd love some advice about my first pull.

I've got long monkey arms and a short torso (don't think that is good for a WL'er ;-)

I've followed the advice from Greg in his article on this website re: Deadlift Vs First Pull

I.e Bar over Ball of foot and arms vertical...

I'm not sure that my set up looks right -

That said I've played with a lower squat position as a start position and my shoulders are behind the bar... and then I have to pause prior to second pull to correct my position -

Whereas this set up shown in the video below my hips are higher and the flow of the bar is continuous....

Thoughts from the wise ones?

Here are a few thoughts:

- Your positions look pretty solid.
- Your butt is coming up a little fast at the beginning of the pull. Try starting the pull with your eyes focused straight forward (instead of looking down) and keep your back tighter off the floor. That might help.
- I can't tell what kind of shoes you're wearing. If those aren't weightlifting shoes, get some.
- You're doing some things right. You just need some small adjustments.

Try to go slow until you're above the knees, the majority of your acceleration should come from the pull and a slow start will allow you to focus on that.

Just to assist what Matt has already said, it looks like you're locking your legs out too soon (which is causing your hips to rise too fast) and you're leaning too far over the bar because you're looking down.

You still want to get the knees back, but not locked out. Think about pulling with your chest up.
