Default Catalyst and Pendlay Snatch differences?

I would imagine that this question has been asked and answered several times before, but I´ve searched without really finding the answer, so I decided to ask anyway.
If I´m not mistaken Catalyst Athletics (and Burgener?), teaches the snatch a bit differently from Pendlay? Or vice versa if you prefer....
However, I´m a bit unsure about exactly where these differences lie. I´ve gotten the impression that even though you prefer one of the methods you can still learn from and to some degree utilize the other? I get this from some people that clearly seem to employ one technique but still seem to get pointers from the other?
So if someone would be so kind and tell me if I´m way off in my assumptions, and perhaps explain the differences in detail?
As I seem to be rambling more than usual tonight, I´ll try to summarize................
What are the differences between a "Pendlay snatch" and a "Catalyst snatch" and can I use pointers from one method even though I utilize the other?

Hi Peter,

I left the thread for someone with more expertise than me as I have little experience.

But noting no one answered here is my two cents worth.

Pendlay (I dont know if its his method) method = a pull to the hips, when the hips explode forward and there is a bit of a barbell swing outwards from the body as it goes up.

Catalyst method = triple extension - 2-3 pulls upwards keeping the bar close all the time before going under.

These are both the same thing, really!! They don't use different technique, but they teach the tech differently.

Thanks for the replies! From my point of view, (which might very well be totally off, as I´m not really a weightlifter, but dabble around with it as part of my program) there seems to be an obvious difference when doing a hang snatch for example. In the first part of Pendlays progression, they bend the knees a few inches while keeping the torso upright. While in Everett´s DVD it seems there´s more inclination of the torso and bending of the hip?
Or have I gotten everything backwards?

Peter -

Yes, Pendlay teaches initially from a hang position with the knees only bent (as does Burgener), and I usually teach from a position with both hips and knees bent. But I also change that depending on what the athlete needs.

Overall tech, I would say that Pendlay emphasizes the hips more while I emphasize the combination of legs and hips. But ultimately, like Keith said, the differences are pretty minor - where you see the big differences is from people doing what we each teach poorly.

I assure you, I won´t be teaching the snatch to anyone, any time soon.....
