Default As a Master, Can I Lift as a Senior?

This is probably a stupid question but here goes...

As a master age lifter, can I sign up as a 21+ senior lifter in USAW meets?

I ask because some times it's kind of a drag to get the default gold at a meet because you were the only master in your weight class. I'm only 35 so some times I'd rather compete against the whipper snappers and get beat rather than stand on the podium by myself.

Yes. In fact, many local meets do not have any masters categories so you are competing against the Seniors anyway. If you are in one of the few local meets that does have a masters category, just tell the meet director and he should be able to handle it however you want. There have been local meets where I have medaled as a Senior and as a master.

At USAW national level meets (American Open, Nationals), they do not have a masters category so if entered you are automatically competing against the Seniors.

And consider going to a Masters only national meet http://www.mastersweightlifting.org/

Good luck!

Thanks for the info, Gwen. I was actually looking last night and realized I can qualify for the Pan American and I'm close to Worlds too.

Deadline for Masters Pan Am entries is due next week, if you are up for a quick trip to Toronto. Worlds for 2015 could be a goal for you (you have missed the last qualifying meet for 2014 worlds).

If yo go to either, look me up. Lift Heavy!
