Lightbulb Interval Training and Mass Gain

Is it possible to use short duration, high intensity interval training to positively affect Mass Gain, or is there a way to incorporate it into a Mass Gain program, and not undermine the (mass gain) results?

For example, intense rowing or swimming intervals performed with 20 seconds sprint/60 seconds recovery for 30 minutes?
