Hold the Milk, Please
For Vascular Benefit of Black Tea, Hold the Milk
Quote:

However, those who drank a mix of 90% black tea with 10% skimmed milk had no more of an increase in vasodilation than if they had consumed two cups of hot water, Dr. Stangl and colleagues reported online today in European Heart Journal.

The three casein proteins in milk may form complexes with certain flavonoids in tea, called catechins, and thereby block their vasodilatory effect, the researchers speculated.

Not that I'm an apologist for milk or anything (I don't drink it), but remember that saturated fat study that came out awhile back about vasodilation? It got trumpted around by the media, but it was total bunk. So, what I'm saying is just be careful about believing what you read in the media, even when it does agree with your beliefs.

I hate milk, and won't drink it.
but I use cream in my coffee, dig ice cream, cottage cheese, and regular cheese.

Agreed Neal...saw their measure of vasodilation and recalled the sat. fat study. Just thought I'd run this one up the flagpole.

Was the study funded by the black tea council?
Just asking.
Milk is one of the fluids in the "Ron Nelson Holy Trinity of Fluids." Milk, coffee, beer. Not necessarily in that order.
Water was beautified to saint status.
I will say this about milk, I stopped drinking ot for about a year when I went "Atkins." I lost over 45 pounds and broke my hand. My wife insists the milk and the hand were related. I say the milk and the weight were related.
Now, milk is almost strictly PWO.

I know there are plenty of articles out there with info on Milk decreasing bone density...not increasing it. Would have to google it. I like to tell people that our country has the highest milk consumption and the highest rate of osteoporosis....I leave the math up to them.
