The Fattening of America, by Eric Finkelstein, explores some similar themes, particularly the role of economics in creating the obesity epidemic.

His basic premise is that our economic success is responsible for our weight problem. High-calorie foods have become increasingly cheaper and our reliance on labor-saving devices have caused to become less active, leading to a doubling in obesity rates.
This book also echoes some of the ideas that Taubes outlines in
Good Calories, Bad Calories, in that the foods that Finkelstein believes are largely responsible for our weight issues are the same ones that Taubes indicts in GC, BC.
