Missed Workouts - Where to resume
Hi,
I tried searching for this answer, but after scrolling through several pages, no luck.
If you miss one of the scheduled workouts within the cycle, is it better to:
1) Just pick up with the next day's workout and skip the one you missed, or
2) Do that missed workout the next day and just keep training through the next rest day to stay on track.
Just curious which you think is the better approach.
Thanks.
Lisa

Trying to make up missed workouts is like chasing money lost at the black jack tables.
You can include some of the elements in your warmup (very light), but you may as well go to the next one. There will be hundreds more.

I agree with Gant about not trying to make up missed workouts. Sometimes I will, however, choose to do the missed workout instead of my scheduled workout if the missed workout involves things I really need to work on. This is not always ideal from a programming perspective, but I sometimes do it anyway, particularly if I know I am going to miss the next day or the next day is a rest day.

If I am unable to do a workout on a scheduled day, I delay the workout until the following day and stay on the same schedule.
At this time of year, I have three scheduled "weight" workouts and four scheduled "event" or "met-con" workouts. I alternate days. If I miss a day of either, I resume where I left off.
I'm liking that very much these days. It's working well. Plus the staggered programming is really leading to some true strength and event performance gains I didn't think was possible at my age.
All the best,
Arden

Thanks!
Thank you all for your replies! This is very helpful. I don't know why I have this "block" in my head that "Monday's workout has to be on Monday" and that I can't just start the next day (duh!) I tend to get stuck in the minutiae at times.
Thanks again!

You'll get more comfortable after completing (and missing) a few hundred workouts.
If you're training for something specific (like Arden alludes to) where you have skill days, practice days, conditioning days...you might need to pick that back up. If you're just doing it for GPP or following a novice progression, just keep trucking (and don't worry about it!).
