Default Paleo - the science

Was hoping some body could point me in the right direction of some good reading on how the paleo diet improves performance/recovery. I whole heartidly believe in it as I have trained using it for a long time (rugby league player and do some crossfit to assist my rugby training) but it would be nice to have a better understanding of why it's working partly because i'm doing a masters in exer phys and partly to help win over my sport science buddies who arn't quite so convinced!
