Very interesting article. So the Roman gladiators ate a vegetarian diet consisting of barley, beans and dried fruit to pack on extra poundage of fat prior to a fight (for sake of using the extra blubber to protect their vital organs)? Then after the main event, they resumed back to they're standard, balanced diet of meat, fish, grains and fruit to lose it again and stay lean. Ha...just goes to show even athletes thousands of years ago realized a vegetarian diet was only good for putting on fat while the meat, fish, grains, fruit (Mediterranean Diet) kept them healthy and lean. Interesting. Any vegetarians out there who object to this one?
