Default Now that winter is almost here

At least for those of us in the NE, does anyone have thoughts on the efficacy of speed (ice) skating as a seasonal replacement for outdoor track work?

I see two benefits: (1) you don't have to be outside in the cold; and (2) easier on the joints. What do you think?
