Default choosing weightlifting shoe size

Hi

im a bout to choose a pair of weightlifting shoes
in the past when i have bought shoes for throwing and sprints i have goe a size or even 1.5 sizes smaller than my normal shoe size for a glove like fit

However im unsure whether that the right thing to do for weightlifting shoes when lifting cleans snatches etc
how much room do i need at the front of shoe between my toe and the end?

Wayne -

You want lifting shoes to be pretty snug too. The leather will stretch a bit and form to your foot over time, and you don't want your foot shifting in there at all.

thanks for your answer Greg, just one more question. How about space between toe and edge of shoe, like with sneakers you leave a finger width, same with weightlifting shoes

Depends a bit on how the shoe is shaped in the toe box, but aim for no spare room. When you split jerk, that back foot needs to be able to flex at the proper point along the shoe and not shift inside.
