Default Clean critique

Hi everyone,

I have been weightlifting exclusively for about two months and competed in my first meet last Sunday. I have seen big gains in my snatch and jerk, but my achilles heel is the clean. I presently jerk about 80 kgs, but I can't clean more than 64-65 kgs.

I think I am starting my second pull too early. As a result, I have to compensate and come forward to catch the bar. I have been incorporating more work from the hang in my training. Are there other exercises I can add to improve my turnover?

Here's a video of a failed attempt at 65 kgs:

It's a tough angle to see your balance, but if you're moving forward, obviously you're off balance forward a bit, although it's minor. I watched the linked video and one of your makes, and I would say two things - one, just make sure that immediately as the bar leaves the floor, get your weight back more toward the heels and keep it there; two, just try to open up a bit more at the top of your pull, i.e. get your shoulders farther back. You do a really good job staying close to the bar as you pull under, but you extend very vertically, which will place your balance too far forward over the feet no matter how close the bar is.

Thanks for your help, Greg. I worked up to a single at 70 kg last night by incorporating your advice.
